Drop-in wellbeing singing sessions in Suffolk and online

We also run Wellbeing Sessions, which are open to all and operate on a donation basis, outside of Pop Chorus membership. Although our physical groups are based in Suffolk, the introduction of online sessions means we can welcome people from far and wide.

These drop-in sessions are great if you don’t fancy learning harmony parts or can’t commit to a whole term of regular choir rehearsals, but like the idea of belting out some well-known hits now and then. These friendly, fun groups are suitable for absolutely anyone, including people living with dementia or Parkinson’s and their carers, care home residents or just those with busy lives!

  • No commitment (donation based)
  • Attend whenever you like
  • Weekly sessions all year, plus monthly Zoom
  • Unison-based songs from the 50s, 60s and 70s to more recent numbers
  • Simply turn up and sing along to lyrics provided
  • Inclusive and welcoming to those with additional needs including dementia
  • Predominantly seated session, only stand for occasional songs (if you want to!)

We sing 50s, 60s, 70s songs and some more recent numbers in unison – lots of well-known songs that you’ll recognise (think Tom Jones, Petula Clark, The Beatles, Doris Day, Queen, Tina Turner, The Carpenters, Chuck Berry, Dolly Parton, The Everley Brothers – you get the idea?!).

Wellbeing Sessions are held weekly throughout the year (except public holidays) and there’s no membership fee or commitment – you can just attend when you feel like it. In-person sessions take place 2-4pm every Monday at a beautiful barn in rural Suffolk (Otley, north of Ipswich), we sing for an hour, followed by refreshments and then a bit more singing. Online sessions take place 2-3pm GMT on the third Thursday of every month, using Zoom.

At our in-person Monday group you will be given lyrics and everyone sings along together with the leader.

In our online sessions you’ll hear the music and the session leader who sings all the songs with you, and the lyrics for each song will pop up on the screen for you to sing along. You’ll be able to see the other participants and you can choose whether to have your camera on.

Both groups are full of laughter and gentle banter and are just for fun, socialising and togetherness – it’s a great opportunity to sing your heart out and lots of us enjoy a bit of a dance too!

Wellbeing Sessions are open to everyone, regardless of age or experience and are also suitable for people with additional needs, those living with dementia or Parkinson’s and their carers. Our online sessions are also warmly received by people in care homes and those who aren’t local to Suffolk.

Please contact us for directions to the in-person Monday group, or the Zoom link for online sessions – or to find out more.
