New Stowmarket group

Apr 19, 2018

We launched our Stowmarket group on 19th April 2018, expanding us to 6 groups across Suffolk.

Our Suffolk-based feel-good singing groups are open to adults of all abilities, unashamedly singing great pop songs in harmony. There’s no audition and members don’t need to read music or have any experience. Repertoire at the time included well-known songs from artists as diverse as Olly Murs, Radiohead and Madonna. Rehearsals are informal and relaxed, with an emphasis on fun and gently developing members’ singing skills. There are regular performance opportunities but none of these are compulsory.

Pop Chorus was founded by professional singer and vocal coach Yula Andrews. She started the first group in Framlingham in 2012, and the entire choir has since grown to several hundred singers across Suffolk.

“Pop Chorus started in 2012 with just 8 singers, and it’s been an amazing success story. The key has been that it’s full of the loveliest people you could hope to meet. Newcomers are often slightly nervous when they come along to give it a try, but it’s such a friendly, supportive environment that opens up a whole new world for people. And there is nothing as thrilling as being part of a big group letting rip with a catchy tune!” said Yula. “We’re really lucky to have Sue York to run the new Stowmarket group. Sue’s got a great ear for harmony and is an experienced leader, and she’s one of these characters who really brings people together,”.

The Stowmarket group usually meets 7.30-9.30pm Thursday evenings at at Stowmarket Community Centre, Hillside – check our choirs page for latest information.
